What do I need to know?

Tryouts are open to club members, returning players and new players, but we will NOT BE HOLDING PRACTICES DURING TRYOUTS!

Please only attend tryouts if you are a competitive player intending to try out for one of our competitive teams. ***If you have never played before or are a beginner, you will be directed to join Open Practices instead (reference our calendar here for a schedule).

These tryouts will be a mix of small sided and full field play. Tryouts are free and we recommend that players try to attend as many tryouts as possible. Please reference the level of play section below and fill out the required form here before attending (this form only needs to be filled out once, it does not need to be filled out before every tryout).

Spring Tryouts Schedule:

• Women’s/Non-Binary (2 tryouts):

  • Wed. 2/5, 8-10PM, John Ferraro Field #2 & #3 (5101 N Zoo Drive)

  • Sat. 2/8, 10AM-12PM, Sepulveda Basin Sports Complex (6201 Balboa Drive)

• Men’s/All Gender (2 tryouts):

  • Wed. 2/5, 8-10PM, John Ferraro Field #2 & #3 (5101 N Zoo Drive)

  • Sat. 2/8, 12PM-2PM, Sepulveda Basin Sports Complex (6201 Balboa Drive)

• Rosters will be announced by Fri. 2/14, via email/posted on our website

• Deadline to accept a roster spot will be Sun. 2/16 (no exceptions, if you do not respond in time, your spot will be filled with someone else)

• Deadline to pay club dues & league fees will be Fri. 2/21

  • Once players accept a spot, they will receive venmo requests from @westhollywoodsoccerclub for club dues & league fees (both MUST BE PAID by Fri. 2/21 to lock in your spot)

  • Failure to pay dues or league fees will result in immediate removal from the team/club.

• Pre-season scrimmages will be as follows:

  • Wed. 2/19, 8-10PM John Ferraro Fields #2 & #3 - Eclipse, Fusion & Suns

  • Sat. 3/1, 10AM-12PM, Sepulveda Basin Sports Complex - Rockets 7s & 11s

Important Reminders:

To be considered for a roster spot, you must attend at least 1 tryout. We recommend attending 2 tryouts and encourage players to indicate interest in multiple teams if they are unsure of the best fit for them. This gives captains a better opportunity to watch and evaluate your play and consider players across all our available playing opportunities. 

If you are a returning player who can not attend tryouts, it is at the discretion of the captains if you can still be considered for a spot on the team. We know extenuating circumstances come up, we ask that you are proactive in communicating those to captains BEFORE tryouts begin (be sure to indicate on your tryout form), so that we can make an effort to evaluate your play at a different opportunity. Please reach out to contact@wehosc.org and we will help direct you to the captains.

There are no exceptions for new players. If you are new to the club you must attend at least 1 tryout to be placed on a roster.

***All players joining a roster will be required to pay yearly club dues for 2025 ($75 if paid by Jan 31st or $90 anytime after) as well as pay additional league fees (~$75-80). Failure to pay these fees will result in immediate removal from the roster/club.

Level of Play (By Team):

Rockets (7v7 & 11v11, women’s/non-binary)

• Highly competitive; rosters play in the women’s divisions of the LA Muni League, 7v7 (Monday nights) & 11v11 (Saturday mornings). The 11v11 roster will also be traveling to a highly competitive tournament in Las Vegas, April 4th-6th.

• Skill Level Recommended: Advanced; Played in College

Eclipse (7v7 & 11v11, men’s/all gender)

• Our most competitive offering; 11v11 plays in the Metro division of the LA Muni League (Sunday afternoons), 7v7 plays in the intermediate division of the Santa Monica League (Thursday evenings, TBD based on interest)

• Skill Level Recommended: Advanced; Played in College

Fusion (7v7 & 11v11, men’s/all gender)

• Competitive; plays in the Minor division of the LA Muni League (Sunday afternoons), 7v7 plays in the first division of the Santa Monica League (Thursday evenings, TBD based on interest)

• Skill Level Recommended: Intermediate; Played in High School or College

Suns (11v11, men’s/all gender)

• Competitive; plays in the First division of the LA Muni League (Sunday afternoons)

• Skill Level Recommended: Intermediate; Played in High School or College

(Please note, we will also be offering weeknight, 8v8 playing opportunities throughout the Fall. These will not require a try-out and any player who does not make one of the rosters above will be considered for a spot with our small-sided teams.)

What is expected of a player to qualify for a roster?

• Attend tryouts (must attend 1, recommended players attend 2)

• Demonstrate the level of playing ability that is needed to be competitive on the team you are trying out for.

  • For more information, please see the Level of Play section above.

• Commit to attend at least 7 out of 10 regular season games, providing your captains with advance notice if you will be out.

  • The Muni season runs for 10-12 weeks.

  • Poor attendance or failure to alert captains in advance may result in removal from a roster. This is at the discretion of the captains.

  • Please review the tentative game dates below in advance of tryouts:

    • Rockets 11s (women's/non-binary, 11v11, Saturday mornings, Sepulveda Basin Sports Complex): 3/22, 3/29, 4/5, 4/12, 4/19, 4/26, 5/3, 5/10, 5/17, 5/31, 6/7*, 6/14*

    • Rockets 7s (women's/non-binary, 7v7, Monday nights, Griffith Park Turf Field): 3/17, 3/24, 3/31, 4/7, 4/14, 4/21, 4/28, 5/12, 5/19, 6/2*, 6/9**

    • Eclipse & Fusion 7v7s - (targeting 2 men’s/all gender 7v7 rosters for Thursday nights in Santa Monica) ***Dependent on Spring league offering & player interest

• Show a commitment to WHSC’s mission - adherence to Code of Conduct, Expectations & Policies

  • Any player in violation of our Code of Conduct can be removed from a roster and/or asked to leave the club. This is at the discretion of the captains and the board.
